Brual Records Shutout as U17 Canadians Split with Thompson
D’Angelo Brual picked up his first shutout of the season on Sunday, as the U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians gained a split with the visiting Thompson Blazers over the weekend at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
On Saturday, the Canadians lost 5-3 after Thompson scored the final three goals of the game, including the game-winner with 4:17 left. William Trolland scored two goals, and Thomas Takeuchi-Davenport also scored his first of the season for GVC. Joshua Read made 26 saves in the loss.
On Sunday, D’Angelo Brual was the star, stopping all 39 shots he faced—including 15 in the third period—for his first shutout of the season, as GVC won 5-0. Jayden Rodas scored two goals, 27 seconds into the game and with 36 seconds remaining. Christopher Tang and Thomas Takeuchi-Davenport each scored his second goal of the season, and Adam Allvin scored an empty-net goal with 2:23 left.
For Brual, it was his third victory of the season, as GVC improved to 5-14-2-1 through 22 games.
Next up for the U17 Canadians, a home-and-home series on Dec. 21-22 against the Vancouver NE Chiefs. Saturday’s game is at the Richmond Oval at 5:15 p.m., while Sunday’s contest is at Burnaby’s Scotia Barn at 12 noon.
