Bruckshaw Scores Twice in U18 Canadians’ Weekend Series vs. Hawks

by K.P. Wee

The U18 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians dropped both games of a home-and-home series against the U18 AAA Vancouver NW Hawks over the weekend (Oct. 21-22), but defenceman Miller Bruckshaw was one of GVC’s bright spots as he scored twice in a losing effort on Saturday.

The Canadians are now 1-7-0-0 to start the season.

On Saturday at the Hollyburn Country Club in West Vancouver, the Canadians fell 6-4 as the Hawks broke a 4-4 tie with only 7:26 left in regulation. The Canadians took a 2-1 lead on goals by Jack MacFarlane and Maxfeld Shin, but the Hawks struck for three straight goals in the second period for a 4-2 advantage. Miller Bruckshaw scored two goals three minutes apart in the third period to tie the game at 4-4, only to see the Hawks notch the game-winner at 12:34 of the frame. An empty-net goal with one second left made the final score 6-4.

On Sunday at the Richmond Olympic Oval, the Hawks blanked the Canadians 4-0 to complete the two-game sweep. The Hawks scored twice in the opening period and two more in the second, while the Canadians were shut out despite 30 shots on goal. Jack Taylor made 28 saves on the afternoon for GVC, including 15 in the first period to keep the Canadians in the game.

The U18 Canadians will now take a break from BCEHL action before returning to league play on Nov. 18-19 for a showcase weekend at the Abbotsford Centre. For schedule information and scores, check out the BCEHL website.
