Hogan makes 38 saves in U17 Canadians’ Loss to Thunderbirds

The U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians dropped a 5-2 decision against the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds on Thursday (Oct. 23), but goaltender Wilfred Hogan was a standout with 38 saves for GVC.


The game took place on a rare Thursday night at the Abbotsford Centre. 


The Canadians jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, with Noah Law and Sam Johnston scoring their third and first goals of the season, respectively. Boden Spratley, Jack MacNeil, Keenan Mak, and Austin Yu picked up assists for the Canadians. 


Unfortunately, the Thunderbirds scored three times in the second period to take the lead, and then added two more in the third to seal the victory.


Hogan made 16 saves in the second period, facing 43 shots in the contest. 


With the loss, the Canadians fall to 3-8-0 on the season, one point out of seventh place. They remain four points out of fifth. 


Through 11 games, Brian Woolfenden leads the team with seven goals, six assists, and 13 points. Law and Maxwell Clemens are tied for second in points with eight apiece. 


Next up for the U17 Canadians, a home-and-home series against the Valley West Giants on Nov. 1-2. The Saturday game is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. at the Planet Ice Delta and the Sunday rematch is set for 8:30 a.m. at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
