Hogan's goaltending and Prokop's OT goal earn split for U17 Canadians

Wilfred Hogan’s brilliant goaltending and Zacary Prokop’s OT winner gave the U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians a thrilling 3-2 win on Sunday, as GVC salvaged a split of its home-and-home series against the Valley West Giants over the weekend (Nov. 1-2).

The Canadians are now 4-9-0 through 13 games.

The weekend series had begun on Saturday, with the Giants winning 7-0 at the Planet Ice Delta. On Sunday at the Richmond Oval, the Giants led 2-0 on a power-play goal and a short-handed tally, and the game stayed that way until three minutes left. That’s when Noah Law broke the Giants’ shutout bid with 2:58 left, and then Maxwell Clemens tied it up with 2:25 remaining. Prokop then scored the OT winner at the 1:04 mark of the sudden-death three-on-three period.

Hogan, meanwhile, kept the Canadians alive with numerous outstanding saves, helping the team kill off two crucial penalties in the third period.

It was the Canadians’ third overtime win of the season. They had won back-to-back overtime games on Oct. 11-12 against the Chiefs and Thunderbirds during showcase weekend at the Oval.

Through 13 games, Brian Woolfenden continues to lead the club in goals (seven), assists (seven), and points (14). He's currently 10th in the U17 division scoring race. Clemens, meanwhile, has six goals, while Law and Austin Yu have four apiece. Leander Han has six assists, and Clemens and Law are tied with nine points.

The U17 Canadians are scheduled to play three games this week, taking on the Thunderbirds at home on Nov. 7 and the Hawks in a home-and-home series on Nov. 8-9.
