Pang and Read Heroic in U18 Canadiens Nets in Pair of Losses
The U18 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians lost 12-0 and 19-0 over the weekend (Oct. 25-26) at home against the U18 AAA Cariboo Cougars, but goaltenders Aidan Pang and Joshua Read performed admirably for GVC.
The Canadians iced a depleted lineup, bolstered by four affiliate players stepping in on short notice.
Both games took place at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
On Saturday, Read made 62 saves, many of them high-quality shots by the Cougars. The 16-year-old made 29 saves in the first period alone, and had 46 stops through two periods.
On Sunday, Pang started the game and the 17-year-old made 30 saves in the first period. Read took over to start the second period and stopped 20 shots in that middle frame. Pang returned to start the third period, and made 23 more stops during the final 20 minutes of the contest. Combined, the two goalies faced 92 shots on Sunday.
The short-handed Canadians remain winless on the season through 10 games.
The scheduled weekend series against the U18 Thompson Blazers (Nov. 1-2) has been postponed, and the U18 Canadians are expected to take on the U18 Vancouver North West Hawks in a home-and-home series on Nov. 8-9. Live coverage of both games will be available on playfullscreen.com.
