U15 Canadians Begin February Slate With Four Games in Burnaby

The U15 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians began their February schedule with four games at Burnaby’s Scotia Barn over the weekend (Feb. 6-8) as part of the league’s Showcase Weekend, losing all four without scoring a goal.


All eight U15 teams took part in the showcase weekend, a league-wide event highlighting the division's top young players.  


On Friday, the Canadians lost 4-0 to the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds. AJ Kwok was credited with 33 saves in the loss, including 24 of 25 over the first two periods. 


The following day, GVC was swept, dropping a 5-0 decision to the Cariboo Cougars and an 11-0 game to the Okanagan Rockets. In the game against the Cougars, Ryder Cook was listed as having 34 saves, 14 of those in the first period. 


The Canadians then wrapped up the weekend with a 7-0 defeat against the Thompson Blazers on Sunday. The game was close after two periods before the Blazers scored four times in the third. Ryder Cook was recorded as making 35 saves. 


Through 27 games, the Canadians are 1-24-1-1. They have three more games remaining in regular-season play before the U15 playoff tournament.


In other U15 news, Carter DeWolff was nominated for the BCEHL’s U15 Commissioner’s Award in recognition of his leadership and positive impact in the community.


Next up, the U15 Canadians take on the Vancouver North West Hawks on Saturday, Feb. 14. The game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Canlan Ice Sports North Shore. The same two teams then meet again on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 8:30 a.m. at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
