U15 Canadians Break Through With Victory vs. Giants
The U15 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians broke through with a win in their first game after the Christmas break, as they split a home-and-home set against the U15 AAA Valley West Giants over the weekend (Jan. 10-11).
The Canadians are 1-19-0-1 through 21 games this season, with nine to play.
On Saturday, the Canadians defeated the Giants 3-1 at the Richmond Olympic Oval, picking up their first win of the 2025-26 season. After the Giants scored the game’s first goal just 47 seconds after the opening puck drop, Eric Wang tied it up with only 1:43 left in the second to give the Canadians the momentum. Magnus King notched the game-winner early in the third, and Wang then iced the game with a short-handed breakaway tally with 5:32 left in regulation.
AJ Kwok was outstanding in goal, making 29 saves for the Canadians.
In Sunday’s rematch at the North Surrey Sport & Ice Complex, the Giants returned the favour by beating the Canadians by the same 3-1 score. This time, the Giants again scored the only goal in the first period, and again the Canadians tied it in the second, this time on a goal by King with 7:39 remaining in the frame. Unfortunately for GVC, the Giants reversed the script in the third period, scoring the go-ahead goal with 13:50 left and then adding the insurance tally with 3:35 to play.
Through 21 games, Jack Mah Ming is the team’s leader in goals with six. Kayvon Salamatian leads the club with 10 points, and Magnus King has a team-best six assists.
As of this writing, the U15 Canadians’ next action will be Jan. 25 at Scotia Barn against the U15 Vancouver NE Chiefs. The Canadians were originally scheduled to play on Jan. 18, but that game has been rescheduled for a later date (Saturday, Feb. 21). Please visit the BCEHL website for the most up-to-date schedule.
