U15 Canadians Drop OT Thriller in North Van

The U15 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians had one of their best offensive games of the season on Saturday (Jan. 31) in North Vancouver, but they dropped a 6-5 decision in overtime to the Vancouver North West Hawks.

It was just the fourth time this season that the Canadians—the lowest-scoring team in the BCEHL’s U15 division—had scored five or more goals in a game. The loss dropped their record to 1-20-1-1 (win - regulation loss - overtime loss - shootout loss) through 23 games.

Marcus Leung, Zonglin Li, Alexandros Melissinos, Magnus King, and Tate Roden scored for the Canadians, but the Hawks scored the winner 1:35 into the overtime period.

Three players scored their first goal of the season: Melissinos, Roden, and affiliate player Leung. King’s goal was his third, and Li’s was his fifth.

It was a big night for Melissinos, who also picked up two assists. Misha Krutous added a pair of helpers as well.

As for the team’s scoring leaders, through 23 games, Jack Mah Ming continues to lead the way with six goals. Kayvon Salamatian and Zonglin Li are tied for second with five goals apiece, while Finn Carkner has four goals.

Mah Ming has a team-high 11 points, and Salamatian is second with 10. Magnus King and Carter DeWolff are tied for third with nine points apiece.

The U15 Canadians have seven games remaining in regular-season play, including Feb. 6-8 at Burnaby’s Scotia Barn in the division’s final showcase weekend of the year. GVC is scheduled to play four games over the three days, facing Fraser Valley, Cariboo, Okanagan, and Thompson. The team’s next home game at the Richmond Olympic Oval will be on Feb. 15.
