U15 Canadians Drop Pair Over Weekend at Home
The U15 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians lost both games at home over the weekend, dropping a 6-2 decision to the Vancouver NW Hawks and suffering a 5-2 defeat to the Vancouver NE Chiefs.
Both contests were held at the Richmond Oval.
Through 21 games, GVC is 4-16-1-0, with nine games remaining in the regular season.
On Saturday, Markus Sivak and Keenan Mak scored for the Canadians to cut their deficit to 3-2 in the third period, but the Hawks tallied the final three goals to prevail 6-2. Both Sivak and Mak scored for the second time in as many games, and Andre Kwan made 21 saves in a valiant effort. However, those performances were not enough, as the Hawks outshot GVC 27-10 for the contest.
On Sunday versus the Chiefs, Kaz Patrick-Russell made 31 saves, and Brian Woolfenden and Noah Law both scored for GVC. But the Chiefs scored two empty-net goals in the final 1:24 to close out the 5-2 contest, extending the Canadians’ winless streak to eight games.
Through 21 games, Leander Han leads the U15 club with 10 goals, while Brian Woolfenden has a team-high 15 assists and 23 points.
The U15 Canadians return to action on Friday, Jan. 31, as part of a stretch of three games in three days. Friday, they face the Chiefs at 4:30 p.m. at the Scotia Barn before taking on Thompson on Feb. 1-2 at the Richmond Oval (5:15 p.m. Saturday and 11:15 a.m. Sunday).
