U15 Canadians Drop Season Finale and Look Ahead to Playoffs

The U15 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians closed out their regular-season schedule on Saturday (Feb. 21), losing 7-4 to the U15 AAA Vancouver North East Chiefs at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

Although GVC started well, scoring four goals in the first period, it was the Chiefs who rallied with five goals in the second while shutting down the Canadians over the final two periods. 

Misha Krutous, Tate Roden, James Wills, and Finn Carkner scored for GVC, with Jack Mah Ming picking up two assists. Wills and Roden each recorded an assist to finish with two-point nights.

The Canadians finished in eighth place with a 2-26-1-1 record in their 30-game schedule.

Looking at individual stats, Jack Mah Ming finished first on the team with eight goals and 15 points, while Yugo Imoto had a team-high nine assists. Zonglin Li and Finn Carkner finished tied for second on the team with six goals apiece. James Wills and Carter DeWolff finished tied for second in points with 12 each. 

The U15 Canadians’ playoff tournament opens Thursday (Feb. 26), with all eight teams in the BCEHL’s U15 division converging at Canlan Sports Twin Rinks in Langley for a four‑day, single‑site event. Preliminary games run Thursday and Friday, the quarterfinals and semifinals follow on Saturday, and the championship is set for Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

The Canadians begin the tournament at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, taking on the first-place Okanagan Rockets (27-3-0-0). They play a second game on Thursday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. against the fourth-place Vancouver North East Chiefs (16-11-2-1). Their final preliminary contest is on Friday at 12:00 p.m. against the fifth-place Cariboo Cougars (16-14-0-0).
