The U15 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians took a break from the BCEHL schedule over the weekend, participating instead in the Bauer U15 AAA Ice Breaker Tournament (Oct. 4-5) at the Summit Centre in Abbotsford, B.C.

The Canadians split their four games, going 2-2-0 on Friday and Saturday to finish second in the division.

On Friday, the Canadians defeated Rink Hockey Academy (RHA) Kelowna 8-1 but later dropped a 5-4 decision to the Canadian Athletic Club (Edmonton). In the win over RHA Kelowna, Koen Lee scored twice in the second period, and Andre Kwan picked up the victory in goal. In the game against CAC, Braelyn Nunley recorded a hat trick, but the Edmonton-based club (which would finish 6-0-0 in the tournament) proved to be too strong, overcoming deficits of 3-1 and 4-2.

On Saturday, GVC then blanked STAR Academy 6-0 before wrapping up the tournament with a 7-2 loss to Edge. In the STAR Academy game, Kaz Patrick-Russell picked up the shutout, while Caden Chou scored a short-handed goal. In the final game, GVC was tied 2-2 in the second period on goals by Chou and Brian Woolfenden; unfortunately, Edge notched the next five goals to prevail.

For the entire tournament, Brian Woolfenden led the team with eight points, including six assists. Braelyn Nunley had an incredible five goals in the four games, and finished with six points. Zacary Prokop, Miles Lewinson, and Noah Law each had five points as well. Seven different GVC players had at least two goals, with Nunley (five), Woolfenden, Prokop, Lewinson, Koen Lee, Caden Chou, and Leander Han all accomplishing the feat.

In goal, Kaz Patrick-Russell finished 1-1-0 with a 2.52 goals-against average and a shutout, while Andre Kwan also posted a 1-1-0 mark with a 4.00 GAA.

Next up for the U15 Canadians (1-5-0-0 in BCEHL play), a weekend series against the U15 Valley West Giants (2-2-0-1) on Oct. 12-13. The Saturday game takes place at 1:30 p.m. at the Langley Events Centre, while the Sunday contest is at 4:00 p.m. at the Planet Ice Delta. Both games can be seen on playfullscreen.com
