U15 Canadians Lose Pair to Thunderbirds

The U15 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians suffered a pair of losses over the weekend, dropping both games of a home-and-home series against the first-place Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.

The Canadians are now 5-8-0-1, as they are in a three-way tie for fifth place in the U15 standings.

On Saturday at the Richmond Ice Centre, the Canadians fell 6-0 as the Thunderbirds scored twice in each of the three periods.

On Sunday at the Abbotsford Centre, Joshua Read made 47 saves while Gavin Dacpano and Henry Goldman scored for the Canadians, but the Thunderbirds broke a 2-2 tie with a short-handed goal with only 5:26 remaining as Fraser Valley went on to win 4-2. Dacpano’s power-play goal with 7:30 left in the first put GVC up 1-0, but the Thunderbirds tied it up four minutes later. After Fraser Valley went up 2-1 in the second, Goldman tied things up with 7:10 left in the period. With the game tied 2-2 and the Canadians on the power play with less than six minutes left in regulation, though, Fraser Valley scored short-handed to go up for good. The Thunderbirds then added an empty-net goal with only 15 seconds left to wrap up the victory.

Next up, the U15 Canadians take on the Valley West Giants on Dec. 2-3 in a home-and-home series. The Saturday game will be at the Planet Ice Delta at 4:45 p.m., while the Sunday game is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. at the Richmond Oval. Both games can be seen on playfullscreen.com.
