U15 Canadians Lose Twice vs. Giants

The U15 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians lost both games of their weekend series against the Valley West Giants, dropping a 6-4 decision Saturday at the Langley Events Centre and falling 8-4 Sunday at the Planet Ice Delta.


In the Saturday thriller, the Canadians took three separate leads in the first period with goals by Maxwell Clemens, Brian Woolfenden, and Caden Chou. However, the Giants tied the game three times before the end of the period and then scored on the power play midway through the second for a 4-3 advantage. Leander Han tied the game 4-4 with only 3:41 left in regulation, but the Giants notched the game-winner with just 1:44 remaining and added an empty-net goal with 1:01 to go. Both Andre Kwan and Kaz Patrick-Russell saw action for GVC in goal, facing a combined total of 38 shots. 


On Sunday, the Giants jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period and scored three more goals in the third en route to the series sweep. Woolfenden, Han, Miles Lewinson, and Braelyn Nunley scored for the Canadians, who fell to 1-7-0 on the season through eight games. GVC is currently four points behind seventh-place Vancouver North West. 


Through eight games, Brian Woolfenden leads the team in scoring with four goals and 11 points. He is tied for the team lead in goals with Leander Han (4-4-8), while Braelyn Nunley is next with three goals. 


The U15 Canadians’ next BCEHL action comes on Oct. 26-27 in Prince George against the Cariboo Cougars (5-1-0), with the first game at 3:45 p.m. and the second at 10:30 a.m. Both games will be held at the Kin Centre and can be seen on playfullscreen.com. At press time, the Cougars are in a three-way tie for first place in the BCEHL’s U15 standings.
