The U15 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians, off to a difficult start in the BCEHL’s U15 division, enjoyed their bye weekend from league play with a 21-0 victory on Sunday against the U15 Tilburg Trappers, a team from the Netherlands.

Tilburg is the seventh-largest city in the Netherlands, with a population of just over 222,000. The Trappers, a club made up of 11- to 14-year-old players, are touring North America for a series of exhibition games.

Sunday’s exhibition game took place at the Richmond Olympic Oval, where the Canadians, currently in last place in the BCEHL’s U15 standings, are not scheduled to play in league action again until Nov. 23.

Against Tilburg on Sunday, the Canadians scored eight goals in the first, seven in the second, and six in the third while outshooting the Trappers 74-13. GVC had three power-play markers in the game.

A total of 13 players put the puck past Trappers goaltender Cees Swaans, who started and finished the game for Tilburg. A trio of Canadians each scored three goals, with Leander Han, Maxwell Clemens, and Caden Chou accomplishing the feat.

Brian Woolfenden and Domenic Piperni each had two goals. The other goal scorers were Koen Lee, Noah Law, Braelyn Nunley, Keenan Mak, Markus Sivak, Noah Tait, Carter DeWolff, and Zonglin Li.

Both GVC goaltenders, Andre Kwan and Kaz Patrick-Russell, saw action in the contest. Kwan started the game and made four saves, while Patrick-Russell took over in the second and stopped all nine shots he faced.

The U15 Canadians (1-7-0 in the BCEHL standings) will resume league play on Oct. 26-27 in Prince George, taking on the U15 Cariboo Cougars (6-2-0, tied for second) at the Kin Centre. Saturday’s game is scheduled for 3:45 p.m., while Sunday’s contest is at 10:30 a.m. Both games can be seen on playfullscreen.com
