U15 Canadians Split Home-and-Home with Giants
The U15 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians split their home-and-home series against the Valley West Giants over the weekend, with each team winning on the road.
GVC won 3-2 in Delta on Saturday, before the Giants took Sunday’s game 3-1 in Richmond.
On Saturday at the Planet Ice Delta, the Canadians jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to goals by Noah Tait, Keenan Mak, and Leander Han. For Tait and Mak, it was their first tallies of the season. For Han, it was his team-high seventh of the year. Andre Kwan picked up the win in goal, improving to 3-4-0 on the season.
Then on Sunday at the Richmond Oval, Koen Lee scored GVC’s only goal of the game with 1:17 left in the second period to tie the game at 1-1, but the Giants scored twice in the third to earn a split in the series. For Lee, it was his second goal of the year. Kaz Patrick-Russell, making his eighth appearance of the season, stopped 24 of 27 shots he faced in the game.
The Canadians are tied for seventh in the U15 standings, with a 4-10-0 record through 14 games.
Leander Han’s seventh goal on Saturday gives him the team lead in that department over both Braelyn Nunley (six) and Maxwell Clemens (six). Brian Woolfenden, who has five goals, currently leads the club with 12 assists and 17 points.
Next up for the U15 Canadians, a U15 tournament at Kelowna’s MNP Place starting December 5 before they return to BCEHL action on Dec. 14-15 in a home-and-home series against the Vancouver NW Hawks.
