U15 Canadians Split Pair of Games with Rockets

by K.P. Wee

The U15 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians played at home at the Richmond Olympic Oval for the first time this season this past weekend (Sept. 30-Oct. 1), splitting a pair of games against the U15 AAA Okanagan Rockets.

On Saturday, Luke Wilson scored a hat trick as the Canadians won 3-2 in overtime. Wilson opened the scoring 3:36 into the game with a power-play goal before the Rockets went up 2-1 after two periods. However, Wilson tied things up 2:14 into the third, and then in overtime he was awarded a penalty shot. On GVC’s 41st shot of the night, Wilson skated in and beat goaltender Tai Bentien for the OT winner—and to complete the hat trick. D’Angelo Brual made 20 saves for the Canadians in the victory.

On Sunday, the Rockets bounced back with a 4-0 victory, scoring three goals in the second period to put the game out of reach, to gain a split in the series.

The Canadians are now tied for sixth place in the BCEHL’s U15 division with a 2-4-0-0 record and four points.

The U15 Canadians will participate in a weekend tournament with other U15 AAA clubs beginning on Friday (Oct. 6) at the Summit Centre in Abbotsford. For more information, please check out the BCEHL website.
