U15 Canadians Sweep Cougars in Prince George

The U15 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians swept the Cariboo Cougars over the weekend at the Kin Centre in Prince George, snapping a six-game losing streak.


The Canadians won 5-3 on Saturday and 4-3 on Sunday.


On Saturday, GVC took three separate one-goal leads before the Cougars tied the game 3-3 five minutes into the third. Max Clemens, though, scored the game-winner on the power play with 3:42 remaining and then added an empty-netter with nine seconds left, giving the Canadians the victory. Noah Law, Leander Han, and Brian Woolfenden (the game’s first star) scored the other GVC goals. Law added two assists, and Braelyn Nunley also contributed two assists. All of the Canadians’ goals came late in the periods, with tallies with 4:09 and 0:03 left in the first, and then with 2:24 remaining in the second. Kaz Patrick-Russell, who got the start in goal, was named the third star of the game.


On Sunday, it was another late-game outburst as the Canadians rallied from a 3-1 deficit in the third period. Braelyn Nunley scored twice, including the tying goal with 9:24 left, and was named the game’s first star. Leander Han, meanwhile, got the game-winner with only 11 seconds left in regulation, completing the comeback. Max Clemens got the other GVC goal, while Brian Woolfenden picked up two assists. Andre Kwan, who got the win in goal, was the game’s third star. 


The U15 Canadians (3-7-0-0) will now have an extended break from the BCEHL schedule. Their next league games will be on Nov. 23-24 against the U15 Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.
