by K.P. Wee

In the final two games before the Christmas break, the U15 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians took three out of a possible four points against the Vancouver NW Hawks in a home-and-home series on Friday (Dec. 15) and Sunday (Dec. 17), snapping a four-game losing streak.

On Friday at North Vancouver’s Karen Magnussen Arena, D’Angelo Brual made 41 saves as the Canadians and Hawks played to a 4-4 tie. The Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead, but Noah Tait scored with 5:25 left in the period to cut the deficit to 2-1. William Trolland and Jayden Rodas then scored in the second period to give GVC a 3-2 lead. The Hawks, however, then took a 4-3 advantage before Nicholas Harris tied the game with 11:28 remaining, and Brual shut down the Hawks the rest of the way in earning GVC a point. Trolland and Henry Goldman each recorded two assists for GVC.

Then on Sunday at the Richmond Olympic Oval, the Canadians scored two late power-play goals to capture a 5-3 win over the Hawks. After a scoreless first period, the Canadians took a 3-0 lead on goals by Evan Borisoff, Luke Wilson, and Nicholas Harris. The Hawks then scored three straight goals to tie the game in the third. But with overtime looming, the Hawks were assessed a double-minor for kneeing with only 1:04 left. The Canadians capitalized, with Borisoff scoring the game-winner with 47 seconds left and William Trolland adding the insurance marker with 15 seconds to go. In the victory, Joshua Read made 42 saves for GVC.

With the three points in this series, the Canadians (6-10-1-1) moved ahead of both Vancouver Island (5-8-0-3) and the Hawks (5-8-2-1) into fifth place, one point up on the two clubs.
