U17 Canadians Continue February Slate in Weekend Showcase
The U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians played in the BCEHL’s final U17 AAA Showcase Weekend of the season, coming away with a pair of losses over the weekend (Feb. 6-8) at Burnaby’s Scotia Barn.
All nine U17 teams participated as part of the BCEHL's commitment to player development and exposure.
On Friday, the Canadians dropped an 8-1 decision against the first-place Vancouver North East Chiefs. Both Wilfred Hogan and Joshua Read saw action in the GVC nets, facing a combined total of 40 shots. Keenan Mak scored the Canadians’ only goal, assisted by Jake Moran, but the Chiefs scored eight straight to win the game easily.
Two days later on Sunday, the Canadians lost 7-3 to the Okanagan Rockets, who are tied for third place in the U17 standings. Wilfred Hogan got the start in goal, making 22 saves for GVC. Leander Han, Austin Yu, and Jake Moran scored for the Canadians, with Zacary Prokop recording two assists. Robert Filc, Boden Spratley, and Beckett Wong also picked up assists.
Through 34 games this season, Brian Woolfenden leads the Canadians with 13 goals, 20 assists, and 33 points. Maxwell Clemens has 12 goals on the season, and Robert Filc has nine. Among defensemen, Boden Spratley, nominated for the BCEHL’s U17 Commissioner’s Award in recognition of his leadership and positive impact in the community, leads the club with four goals, 11 assists, and 15 points.
The U17 Canadians (11-19-4-0) close out the regular season with a home-and-home series against the Vancouver North West Hawks (20-9-3-0) on Feb. 13 (Friday) and 15 (Sunday), with the first game at the Richmond Olympic Oval at 6:00 p.m. and the finale at the Canlan Ice Sports North Shore at 11:00 a.m.
