U17 Canadians Drop Both Games vs Top-Seeded Blazers

The U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians were swept over the weekend (Oct. 18-19) in Chase, B.C., dropping 5-1 and 7-0 decisions to the first-place Thompson Blazers.

Brian Woolfenden continued to pace the Canadians offensively, scoring the lone GVC goal for the weekend, with Robert Filc and Domenic Piperni picking up the assists.

Woolfenden now has a team-best seven goals on the season, while Filc’s assist gives him five on the season, tied for second on the club.

Despite their 3-7-0 record through 10 games, the Canadians are still within striking distance of fifth place, just four points back of that spot.

Both goaltenders, Wilfred Hogan and Kaz Patrick-Russell, saw action over the weekend for Greater Vancouver. Both did their best to try and slow down the potent attack of the league-leading Blazers, who lead the U17 division with 5.3 goals per game and a +31 goal differential.

As mentioned, Woolfenden leads GVC with seven goals. He’s also the club leader in assists (six) and points (13). Maxwell Clemens (five) and Austin Yu (four) round out the top three in goals, and Clemens also has eight points. Noah Law is third in points with seven.

The next game for the U17 Canadians takes place on Thursday, Oct. 23, with GVC facing off against the third-place Fraser Valley Thunderbirds (6-3-1) at the Abbotsford Centre at 7:45 p.m.
