The U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians ended their four-game losing streak over the weekend, sweeping the Vancouver Island Royals on the road, 5-1 and 5-4.

On Saturday at the Ian H. Stewart Complex in Victoria, the Royals scored just 54 seconds into the game, but GVC stormed back with five unanswered goals to cruise to the victory. Jayden Rodas and Trevor Chin scored in the first to give the Canadians a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes, and then William Trolland’s goal late in the second gave GVC a 3-1 advantage through 40 minutes. Sean Wickenden’s empty-netter made the score 4-1 with 3:01 remaining in the game, before Gavin Dacpano completed the scoring just 31 seconds later. D’Angelo Brual picked up the win in goal for the Canadians.

On Sunday at Kerry Park in Mill Bay, the Canadians won a 5-4 overtime thriller to complete the weekend sweep, rallying from a 4-2 third-period deficit. Trevor Chin had two more goals, including the OT winner with 1:13 left. William Trolland also scored twice, including the tying goal with just 3:47 left in regulation to even the score at 4-4. Gavin Dacpano scored again as well in as many days, notching GVC’s third goal with 8:43 remaining to cut the deficit to 4-3. Joshua Read, meanwhile, picked up the win in goal.

The eighth-place Canadians (3-9-2-0) are now just two points out of seventh place and three out of sixth in the U17 division.

With his big weekend, Chin now has a team-high eight goals on the year. Trolland is second with six and leads the club with 13 points.

Next up, GVC takes on the Okanagan Rockets on Nov. 23-24 in Kelowna. Saturday’s game is at 5:45 p.m. while Sunday’s is scheduled for 1 p.m., with both taking place at MNP Place.
