U17 Canadians Get Blanked at Scotia Barn

The U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians held the high-power Vancouver North East Chiefs to only three goals, but the third-place Chiefs blanked GVC in a 3-0 decision on Saturday (Jan. 24) at Burnaby’s Scotia Barn.

Philip Beedle scored twice for the Chiefs.

Joshua Read started in goal for the Canadians and had another strong effort. However, he did not receive any offensive support and saw his record drop to 1-2-0-3 despite a fine 3.26 goals-against average. Per the BCEHL website, Read is No. 1 on the team in GAA, just ahead of Wilfred Hogan (3.63).

The loss dropped GVC to 10-15-4-0 through 29 games this season, although the team has a healthy 11-point lead over last-place Vancouver Island in the standings. The Canadians are only one point out of seventh place, a spot currently occupied by the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds. Both GVC and the Thunderbirds have played the same number of games.

Brian Woolfenden leads GVC with 13 goals, 19 assists, and 32 points through 29 games, while Maxwell Clemens is second with 10 goals. Leander Han is No. 2 in assists with 14 and points with 18. Boden Spratley is the offensive leader among GVC defensemen, as he leads all blueliners in goals (four), assists (10), and points (14).

The U17 Canadians have seven games remaining in the regular season, including Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at the Richmond Olympic Oval against the fourth-place Okanagan Rockets. The Saturday game is at 5:15 p.m. while the Sunday rematch is at 11:15 a.m.
