U17 Canadians Lose Both Games in Weekend Showcase
The U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians dropped both games in their U17 weekend showcase, losing 6-2 to the Valley West Giants and 3-0 to the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds.
All nine teams in the BCEHL’s U17 division played their games at the Richmond Olympic Oval over the weekend, the first of two showcases of the season for the league.
On Friday, the Canadians started well against the Giants, with Henry Goldman scoring twice in a span of 1:04 midway through the first period. The Giants, however, stormed back with four goals of their own in the second, and went on to the 6-2 victory. William Trolland, Gavin Dacpano, and Peyton Fernandez picked up assists for GVC. Joshua Read gave the Canadians a valiant effort with 40 saves in goal, as the Giants outshot GVC 46-18.
On Sunday, the Canadians fell 3-0 to the Thunderbirds, despite D’Angelo Brual’s 32 saves. Brual made numerous outstanding stops throughout the contest, including 22 over the final two periods.
Through 10 games, the Canadians are 1-7-2, with Trevor Chin leading the club with five goals. Connor Ma, William Trolland, and Luke Wilson are tied for the team lead with five assists, with Ma and Trolland leading in points with seven. Goldman’s two goals on the weekend give him three on the season.
The U17 Canadians’ next BCEHL action will take place on Nov. 9-10, in a home-and-home series against the Thunderbirds.
