U17 Canadians Lose Twice to Hawks in Home-and-Home Series

by K.P. Wee

The U17 AAA Vancouver NW Hawks proved to be too much for the U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians to handle over the weekend, as GVC lost both games of their home-and-home series, 4-2 and 9-1.

On Saturday at the Canlan Ice Sports North Shore, the Canadians fell 4-2 despite goals from Nicholas Harris and Adam Allvin. Joshua Read gave up only one goal over the last two periods, but the Canadians were unable to come all the way back after trailing 4-0 early in the second. Connor Ma, Thomas Kanavos, and Sean Wickenden picked up assists in the loss.

On Sunday at the Richmond Olympic Oval, the Hawks scored five times in the second period to send GVC to a 9-1 defeat, dropping the Canadians to 0-3-1 on the season. Harris scored the only goal for the Canadians, with Wickenden and Ma picked up assists. Both D’Angelo Brual and Joshua Read saw action in goal, each making numerous difficult saves throughout the course of the game—but the Hawks offense proved to be just too much on this afternoon.

Next up for the U17 Canadians, a road trip to Kamloops for a weekend series against the U17 Thompson Blazers on Sept. 28-29. Saturday’s game is at the McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre at 5 p.m., while the Sunday contest takes place at the same venue at 9:15 a.m. Both games can be seen on playfullscreen.com
