U17 Canadians Pick Up One Point vs. Second-Place Hawks
The U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians picked up one point in their home-and-home series against the second-place Vancouver NW Hawks over the weekend, losing 8-4 in North Van before dropping a 5-4 overtime decision at home.
The Canadians, who got a hat trick from William Trolland on Saturday, fall to 4-13-2-1 on the season.
On Saturday at the Planet Ice Delta, the Canadians fell behind 6-0 in the second period before Trolland scored twice in the period to give GVC some life. But the Hawks increased their lead to 8-2 in the third before Sean Wickenden scored short-handed and Trolland completed his hat trick with 1:03 left.
On Sunday at the Richmond Oval, the Canadians took a 2-1 lead on first-period goals by Luke Wilson and Christopher Tang. Then, with the score tied 2-2, Adam Allvin and Nicholas Harris both scored in the first 1:27 of the second period as GVC took a 4-2 advantage. The Hawks, though, made it 4-3 late in the second and then tied the game midway through the third. In overtime, the Hawks completed the comeback with the game-winner with 2:36 left, sweeping the series.
Trolland’s three-goal effort on Saturday gave him the team lead in goals with 10. He is also the team’s points leader with 19, and is tied for the club lead with nine assists with Luke Wilson. Meanwhile, Tang’s goal on Sunday was his first of the season.
Next up, the U17 Canadians take on the U17 Thompson Blazers at home on Dec. 14-15, with Saturday’s game at 5:15 p.m. and Sunday’s at 8:30 a.m. Both games are at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
