U17 Canadians Pick Up Seventh Win in Victoria
The U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians split their weekend series (Nov. 15-16) in Victoria last week, beating the Vancouver Island Royals 6-2 on Saturday before losing 5-1 on Sunday.
Both games were held at Victoria’s Ian H. Stewart Complex.
The win on Saturday was the Canadians’ seventh of the season, as the eighth-place squad is only five points out of third spot. GVC has a 7-11-0 mark through 18 games.
On Saturday, the Canadians dominated in their 6-2 victory over the Royals, with Koen Lee scoring twice. Boden Spratley, Maxwell Clemens, Beckett Wong, and Robert Andrej Filc also tallied for GVC. For Wong, it was his first goal with the Canadians. In goal, Kaz Patrick-Russell allowed only two goals and picked up his second win of the season.
On Sunday, though, the Royals salvaged the weekend series split by limiting GVC to only one goal in the 5-1 decision. Brian Woolfenden scored the lone goal in the second period, his eighth of the season, with Austin Yu and Zacary Prokop picking up the assists.
Through 18 games, Woolfenden and Clemens are tied for the team lead with eight goals apiece, with four players tied for second with four each (including Lee).
Woolfenden also leads the club with 11 assists and 19 points, with Leander Han’s eight assists number two. Clemens and Noah Law are tied for second with 11 points.
This weekend (Nov. 22-23), the U17 Canadians will be back on the road, taking on the fifth-place Okanagan Rockets at Kelowna’s MNP Place. Saturday’s game is at 3:00 p.m. while Sunday’s contest is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. The Canadians currently trail the Rockets by four points in the standings.
