U17 Canadians Season Comes to an End After Being Swept by Hawks
The U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians’ 2025-26 season has come to an end, as the team was swept in the opening round of the playoffs by the first-place Vancouver North West Hawks over the weekend (Feb. 27-28).
The Hawks swept the best-of-three series with 4-0 and 7-4 triumphs over the Canadians, with both games coming at the Canlan Ice Sports North Shore.
In the series opener on Friday, Joshua Read shut out the Hawks through the first 35 minutes before Vancouver NW got on the scoreboard with 4:26 left in the second period. The Hawks made it 2-0 just two minutes later, and then closed out the contest with two third-period goals.
In Game Two on Saturday, the Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Wilfred Hogan and cruised to the 7-4 win. Noah Law, Leander Han, Nolan Rizzardo, and Domenic Piperni scored for GVC, and Koen Lee recorded three assists.
Koen Lee’s three assists in the second game gave him the scoring lead among all GVC skaters, while Nolan Rizzardo finished second with two points.
The Canadians had finised the rgular season in eighth place with an 11-21-4-0 mark before being swept in the first playoff round. The Canadians wound up dropping seven of eight games to the Hawks this season, after losing five of six in regular-season play.
Next up, the U17 AAA Canadians will get an off-season break before preparing to take the ice for the 2026-27 season.
