U17 Canadians Sweep Chiefs and Run Winning Streak to Three

Joshua Read picked up a shutout on Saturday and the U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians went on to sweep the Vancouver NE Chiefs in a home-and-home series over the weekend, winning 3-0 and 5-2. 


The Canadians are now 7-14-2-1 and have won three straight. 


On Saturday at the Richmond Oval, Read made 29 saves as the Canadians recorded their second straight shutout. In their previous game on Sunday, D’Angelo Brual had stopped 39 shots against Thompson in a shutout win. 


In the 3-0 win on Saturday vs. the Chiefs, Read logged his first shutout of the year. Nick Harris, Connor Ma, and Bruce McLeod scored for GVC.


On Sunday at Burnaby’s Scotia Barn, GVC overcame a 2-0 deficit and won 5-2. Thomas Kanavos started the comeback with 5:38 in the second, and then William Trolland scored just 29 seconds later, tying the game 2-2. The Canadians then struck for three quick goals in the third, with Trevor Chin, Jayden Rodas, and Henry Goldman scoring in a 1:30 span. Rodas now has three goals in his last three games. D’Angelo Brual, who started the game, earned his fourth win of the season. 


The eighth-place U17 Canadians’ next league games will be Jan. 11-12 against the first-place Okanagan Rockets (19-3-0-0) at the Richmond Oval.
