U17 Canadians Wrap Up Regular-Season Schedule
The U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians wrapped up their regular-season schedule over the weekend (Feb. 13 and 15), dropping both games of a home-and-home series to the U17 Vancouver North West Hawks.
The Canadians end the regular season with an 11-21-4-0 mark, finishing in eighth place with 26 points.
On Friday, the Canadians fell 7-3 at the Richmond Olympic Oval despite two power-play goals by Boden Spratley and a goal by Brian Woolfenden. The Hawks turned a close game into a blowout with five goals in the second, turning 1-0 and 4-2 leads to a four-goal advantage by the end of the period. Both Kaz Patrick-Russell and Wilfred Hogan saw action in the GVC net.
Woolfenden added an assist to finish with a two-point night, while Leander Han, Noah Law, Maxwell Clemens, and Sam Johnston also picked up assists.
After an off-day, the two teams continued their series on Sunday, with the Hawks winning 5-3 at the Canlan Ice Sports North Shore. Woolfenden, Robert Filc, and Domenic Piperni all scored for GVC in a three-goal first period, but the Hawks defense shut down the Canadians the rest of the way. Vancouver North West scored three goals in the third to rally for the win.
Woolfenden finished the 36-game regular-season schedule leading the team with 15 goals, 21 assists, and 36 points. Clemens ended the year with 12 goals, while Filc’s goal on Sunday gave him 10 on the season. Han, meanwhile, finished second on the club with 15 assists and 20 points. Among defensemen, Spratley ranked first on the team with six goals, 11 assists, and 17 points.
The U17 Canadians will now take on the first-place finisher in the first round of the BCEHL’s U17 playoffs. At the moment, the opposition has yet to be determined, as the Vancouver North East Chiefs and Cariboo Cougars are tied atop the league standings with 49 points apiece, and the Hawks are only two points back with games in hand.
