U18 Canadians Drop Back-to-Back Games in Kelowna
The U18 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians dropped both games of their road series in Kelowna over the weekend, losing 5-1 and 7-2 to the Okanagan Rockets.
Both games were held at Kelowna’s MNP Place.
The Canadians, who have now lost three straight, are 8-10-2-2 through 22 games this season, sixth in the U18 standings.
On Saturday, Okanagan jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two periods before Luca Martyniuk scored to break the shutout two minutes into the third. Alan Peregrym started in goal for GVC, while A.J. Abell and Sorash Ramlal each picked up an assist.
On Sunday, Abell and Martyniuk scored for GVC, and Liam Leslie started in goal for the Canadians.
Thanks to the two goals over the weekend, Martyniuk now has a team-high 13 on the season. Through 22 games, blueliner Kaden Meyer leads the club with 22 assists and 27 points. In goal, Alan Peregrym leads the U18 division with 16 appearances, and his 2.82 goals-against average is fourth-best among goalies with at least 10 games.
Next up for the U18 Canadians, a home-and-home series against the fourth-place U18 Fraser Valley Thunderbirds on Dec. 21-22. Saturday’s game is at 2:30 p.m. at the Richmond Olympic Oval, while Sunday’s contest is at 2:00 p.m. at the Abbotsford Centre.
