The U18 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians opened their 2023-24 BCEHL regular-season schedule this past weekend (September 23-24) by dropping both games of their home-and-home series to the Valley West Giants, 5-0 and 7-2.

On Saturday at the Richmond Olympic Oval, the Giants jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period of play and never looked back in the 5-0 contest. The loss by the Canadians wasn’t because of a lack of effort, though, as GVC fired 15 shots in the second period alone, but Giants goaltender Taylor West stopped all of them en route to the shutout. At the other end, Marcus Taylor kept the Canadians in the game with numerous spectacular saves, facing 42 shots on the afternoon.

Then on Sunday at the Langley Events Centre, the Giants finished off the sweep by winning 7-2. Down 1-0 in the first period, the Canadians evened up the score on Ryan Ashe’s goal at the 7:42 mark. However, the Giants then got the next five goals before Jack MacFarlane cut the deficit to 6-2 with a power-play marker with 6:21 left.

The next league games for the U18 Canadians (0-2-0-0) will be on the weekend of October 7-8 against the U18 AAA Vancouver NE Chiefs. Both games can be seen on playfullscreen.com.
