The U18 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians earned a split in the BCEHL’s U18 Showcase Weekend at the Abbotsford Centre, beating the Vancouver Island Royals 6-5 on Saturday and losing to the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds 7-2 on Sunday.

Saturday’s win gave the Canadians a modest three-game points streak, as they had gone 1-0-1 against the Thompson Blazers a week earlier.

On Saturday, the Canadians fell behind 2-0 after the first period and 5-3 after the second, but rallied with three unanswered goals in the third to pull out the victory. Dawson Sucke and James Lin scored less than two minutes apart in the second to tie the game 2-2, and Graham Kilpatrick also scored in the frame. Ryan Kump scored 1:07 into the third to cut the deficit to 5-4 before Lucas Epp tied the game at 5-5 just 49 seconds later. Miller Bruckshaw then notched the game-winner with 8:07 remaining to complete the comeback. Jack Taylor stopped 42 shots, including 20 in the final period.

On Sunday, the Thunderbirds jumped out to a 7-0 lead before the Canadians broke the shutout with two goals in the final 6:06 of regulation. Harjun Aujla and Jack MacFarlane scored for GVC while Marcus Taylor made 41 saves.

The Canadians, who are now 3-8-1-0 on the season, will take on the Cariboo Cougars (11-2-1-0) on Nov. 25-26 at the Richmond Olympic Oval. Saturday’s game is at 2:30 p.m., while Sunday’s contest is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. Both games can be seen on playfullscreen.com.
