The U18 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians were unable to stop the high-flying Fraser Valley Thunderbirds this week, dropping both games of a home-and-home series to the U18’s second-place club on Wednesday (Feb. 14) and Sunday (Feb. 18).

The Canadians have lost three straight games, falling to 7-24-2-1 on the season with two games remaining in the regular season.

On Wednesday at the Richmond Oval, the Canadians fell 8-1, as Fraser Valley moved into second place, one point ahead of Cariboo. Kyle Zhang scored the only goal for GVC, notching his sixth of the season midway through the first period. Both goaltenders, Jack Taylor (17 saves) and Marcus Taylor (12 saves), saw action for GVC. With an assist (his 18th of the season), Yashas Jain picked up his team-leading 28th point of the year.

On Sunday at the Abbotsford Centre, the Thunderbirds used a four-goal second period to break open the contest and prevailed 6-1. Harjun Aujla scored a short-handed goal, his fifth tally of the season, late in the second for the Canadians’ lone goal.

Next up, the final weekend of the regular season for the U18 Canadians on Vancouver Island against the Royals on Feb. 24-25. The Saturday game is at 7:00 p.m. at the Ian H. Stewart Complex in Victoria, and the Sunday contest is at the Panorama Recreation Centre in North Saanich at 1:55 p.m. Both games can be seen on playfullscreen.com
