The U18 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians participated in the prestigious Western Sport School Challenge (WSSC) this past weekend, playing against the top U18 AAA and U18 Prep teams in a four-day tournament in Calgary.

The Canadians went 0-4 in the showcase event, which included three round-robin games on the tournament’s first three days and a playoff contest on the final day.

The tournament began on Thursday (Sept. 28), with the Canadians dropping a 9-2 decision against Edge School (Calgary). Ryan Kump and A.J. Abell scored for the Canadians, while goaltender Marcus Taylor, who was kept busy in net throughout the contest, was the GVC player of the game as Edge School fired 64 shots on goal.

On Friday, the Canadians fell 5-1 to OHA Edmonton, with Harjun Aujla scoring the only goal for GVC.

On Saturday, the Canadians dropped their third straight game, 5-2 to the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX), the eventual tournament champions. Harjun Aujla and Aidan Mukai scored for the Canadians, who held a pair of leads against the tough NAX club before ultimately losing the contest.

In the playoff round on Sunday, the Canadians were defeated 6-0 by North Shore to close out the tournament.

The U18 Canadians return to BCEHL action this weekend (Oct. 7-8) in a home-and-home series against the U18 Vancouver NE Chiefs. The first game will be at the Richmond Olympic Oval on Saturday at 2:30 p.m., while the series finale will be on Sunday at 10:45 a.m. at the Scotia Barn in Burnaby.
