U18 Canadians Pick Up Three Points vs. Blazers

by K.P. Wee

The U18 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians snapped a three-game losing streak with a tie and victory against the visiting Thompson Blazers over the Remembrance Day weekend, picking up three out of a possible four points in the two games in Richmond.

The Canadians improve to 2-7-1-0 on the season.

On Sunday night at the Minoru Arenas, the Canadians got goals from A.J. Abell, Kyle Zhang, and Graham Kilpatrick, but a Thompson goal with only 1:45 remaining in regulation tied the game at 3-3, and that was how the game ended as nobody score in sudden-death overtime. Although he allowed the tying goal late, Jack Taylor was spectacular in the GVC nets, making numerous key stops particularly in the first two periods.

On early Monday morning at the Richmond Oval, the Canadians got two goals in the second period from Graham Kilpatrick as they hung on for a 5-4 victory. Miller Bruckshaw and Cohen Smith scored for GVC in the first period, and Josh Mytton, called up from the U17 club, added his first goal in the second. Harjun Aujla had three assists, and Marcus Taylor made 23 saves.

Next up for the U18 Canadians, a showcase weekend at the Abbotsford Centre on Nov. 18-19. On Saturday the 18th, GVC takes on the last-place Vancouver Island Royals (1-11-0-0) at 4:45pm, and on Sunday the Canadians play the first-place Fraser Valley Thunderbirds (10-2-0-0) at 4:45pm.
