U18 Canadians Shut Out Twice by Reigning Champion Okanagan
The U18 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians opened their 2025-26 season over the weekend (Sept. 20-21) with a tough home series against the powerhouse U18 Okanagan Rockets, who handed the team consecutive shutout defeats by scores of 12-0 and 14-0 at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
The Canadians were up against a U18 Rockets squad loaded with experience—10 players returned from last year’s club that played in the Telus Cup and won the BCEHL U18 title.
On Saturday, the Canadians were outshot 64-11, with GVC netminder Joshua Read making 52 saves. Despite the lopsided score, Read was outstanding in net with a flurry of acrobatic saves—many of them highlight-reel quality—as the Rockets were able to control puck possession for much of the contest.
On Sunday, the Canadians were outshot 70-7, as goalie Aidan Pang made an incredible 56 saves. Like Read the night before, Pang stood tall in net, making save after save to keep the score from ballooning even further.
The U18 Canadians (0-2-0) will look to bounce back in their next contest, on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 1:30 p.m. at Burnaby’s Scotia Barn against the Vancouver NE Chiefs (1-1-0). Live coverage of the game will be available on playfullscreen.com.
