U18 Canadians Split Weekend Series in Kamloops

The U18 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians received a three-goal performance from Sorash Ramlal on Saturday, as they went on to earn a series split against the Thompson Blazers in Kamloops over the weekend.


On Saturday, the Canadians won 6-5 to end a four-game losing streak. They then lost 4-1 on Sunday. Both games were held at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops.


In Saturday’s game, Ramlal and Nishaan Gill both scored in the first period, as GVC took a 2-1 lead. Hunter Vye-Weedon made it 3-1 just 41 seconds into the second period, and after the Blazers tied the game 3-3, Ramlal put the Canadians ahead for good with his second of the game with 4:36 left in the period. Kaden Meyer’s power-play goal with 2:49 left in the second made it 5-3, and then Ramlal added his third goal to complete the hat trick five minutes into the third. Ramlal’s hat trick gave him 10 goals on the season, one behind team leader Luca Martyniuk. Meyer’s goal, meanwhile, was his fifth and gives him a team-high 22 points on the year. 


On Sunday, A.J. Abell scored with 2:40 left in the first period, his seventh goal of the season, to give GVC a 1-0 lead, but the Blazers tied it midway through the second. Thompson then went on to win the game with three goals in the third, gaining a split in the weekend series. 


The U18 Canadians are now 8-8-2-2 through 20 games, fifth in the U18 standings. Their next games will be in Kelowna on Dec. 14-15, against the Okanagan Rockets at the MNP Place. Saturday’s game is at 5:45 p.m., and Sunday’s finale is at 10 a.m.
