U18 Canadians Sweep Thompson and Move to .500

The U18 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians moved to .500 on the season after sweeping the Thompson Blazers over the weekend in Kamloops, winning 7-1 and 9-1 at the McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre. 


Luca Martyniuk had a big weekend, scoring four goals in the two games, his first four of the season. He now leads the team in that category, and is tied for third in team scoring with five points.


The pair of dominant victories pushed the Canadians’ record to 3-3-0, as they are now three points behind fifth-place Okanagan in the BCEHL’s U18 standings. 


In Saturday’s game, Martyniuk scored a hat trick and added an assist, and the Canadians also got goals from Hudson May, A.J. Abell, Joshua Mytton, and Erik Hoemberg. Alan Peregrym picked up the win in goal for GVC.


On Sunday, Helius Guan scored twice, and the Canadians also received goals from Kaden Meyer, Cohen Smith, Luca Martyniuk, Aidan Mark, John Bethell, Joshua Mytton, and Nathan Van Hoeke. Alan Peregrym got the call in goal again, and improved to 3-1-0 with a 2.28 goals-against average. 


Through six games, blueliner Kaden Meyer leads GVC with eight assists and 10 points. Among forwards, Helius Guan leads the club with five assists and eight points. 


The U18 Canadians will take on the Okanagan Rockets on Oct. 19-20, with both games at the Richmond Oval. Saturday’s game is at 5:15 p.m., while Sunday’s contest is at 8:30 a.m. Both games can be seen on playfullscreen.com
