The U18 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians returned to the ice over the weekend (Jan. 6-7) following the BCEHL Christmas break, dropping both games of a home-and-home series against the first-place Vancouver NE Chiefs.

Ryan Kump scored twice in Saturday’s game, while Maxfield Shin notched his fifth goal of the season on Sunday.

On Saturday at Burnaby’s Scotia Barn, the Chiefs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period en route to an eventual 7-2 victory. Kump scored his second goal of the season five minutes into the second to cut the deficit to 2-1 and then added his third of the campaign with 12 minutes remaining in regulation to make the score 5-2. The Chiefs, however, added two more goals after that to pull away for the win.

On Sunday at the Richmond Olympic Oval, the Chiefs scored the first eight goals of the game before Shin broke the shutout bid with 2:54 left in the 8-1 Vancouver North East victory. The Chiefs outshot the Canadians 47-17 in the contest, and both Marcus Taylor and Jack Taylor saw action in goal, with both being called upon to make many difficult saves throughout the afternoon.

With the two losses, the Canadians, seventh in the U18 standings, fell to 6-16-1-1 on the season.

Up next for the U18 Canadians, a trip to Kelowna on Jan. 13-14 to take on the fourth-place Okanagan Rockets (14-7-0-1). Both games will be at MNP Place and can be seen on playfullscreen.com, with the Saturday game at 5:45 p.m. and the Sunday contest at 12:45 p.m
