U18 Canadians’ Undefeated Streak Ends vs. Giants

by K.P. Wee

The U18 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians saw their five-game undefeated streak come to an end, as they dropped both games of a home-and-home series to the first-place Valley West Giants over the weekend.

On Saturday at the Richmond Oval, the Canadians lost 5-4 in overtime after coming back from 3-0 and 4-2 deficits. Luca Martyniuk had two goals, his team-high sixth and seventh of the season, including the tying score with only 10.5 seconds left in regulation. Sorash Ramlal and Kaden Meyer also scored for GVC, while Alan Peregrym made 51 saves in the losing effort. Martyniuk, Ramlal, and Meyer each had an assist too.

On Sunday at the Langley Events Centre, the Canadians lost 6-1 as the Giants completed the weekend sweep. Ramlal scored GVC’s only goal and Peregrym made 30 stops in goal.

In other news, two Canadians players received BCEHL U18 monthly awards, with Kaden Meyer being named Defender of the Month for September/October and Alan Peregrym awarded Goalie of the Month honors for the same period. Congratulations to both Meyer and Peregrym!

Next, the Canadians (5-4-1-1) will take on the U18 Vancouver NE Chiefs on Friday, Nov. 8, at Scotia Barn in Burnaby at 4:30 p.m. They then play the U18 Vancouver NW Hawks over the weekend in a home-and-home series, with Saturday’s game at the Canlan Ice Sports North Shore at 6 p.m. and Sunday’s contest at the Richmond Oval at 11:15 a.m.
