U18 Canadians Win Finale in WSSC

The U18 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians took part in the annual Western Sport School Challenge (WSSC) in Calgary from Thursday to Sunday, winning one of their four games played. 


The WSSC is a hockey tournament bringing together the top U18 clubs from Western Canada, hosted by Edge School at the Kyle Stuart Arena in Calgary, and this year’s 12-team event included the Canadians, Okanagan Rockets, and Thompson Blazers. 


The Canadians dropped their two round-robin games on Thursday and Friday, lost their placement game on Saturday, and then won their final game of the event against Thompson.


Here are the scores from the tournament:


  • Thursday, Sept. 26: NAX 10, GVC 1 (Round Robin)

  • Friday, Sept. 27: RINK Kelowna 6, GVC 2 (Round Robin)

  • Saturday, Sept. 28: North Shore 4, GVC 1 (Placement Game)

  • Sunday, Sept. 29: GVC 5, Thompson 4 (WSSC Showcase Game)


The host team, Edge School, wound up winning the WSSC Championship, defeating Prairie 6-5 in the title game. 


The U18 Canadians (1-1-0) return to BCEHL action on Oct. 5-6, taking on the U18 Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in a home-and-home series, with Saturday’s game at the Richmond Oval at 2:30 p.m. The Sunday contest will be at the Abbotsford Centre at 6:30 p.m. Both games can be seen on playfullscreen.com
