Valiant Effort for U15 Canadians Fall Short

The U15 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians scored three times in the third period, but fell just short in a 5-4 loss to the Vancouver North East Chiefs on Sunday (Jan. 25).

The game took place at Burnaby’s Scotia Barn, the Chiefs’ home rink.

With GVC trailing 4-0 in the second period, James Wills scored with 10 seconds remaining to put the Canadians on the scoreboard. In the third period, GVC received goals from Finn Carkner, Zonglin Li, and Misha Krutous, but the rally fell just short.

Wills and Krutous each finished with a goal and an assist, while Carter DeWolff, Yugo Imoto, Linden Kwok, and Yuyang Sun also picked up assists.

Carkner now has four goals on the season, while DeWolff and Wills each has three. Krutous’s goal was his first.

Through 22 games this season, the Canadians have a 1-20-0-1 record, and are on track to face the first-place Fraser Valley Thunderbirds, who have a four-point cushion over second-place Okanagan, in the playoffs.

With his assist on Sunday, DeWolff is now tied with Magnus King with six, tops on the team. Jack Mah Ming continues to lead the club with six goals, and Kayvon Salamatian has a team-best 10 points.

The Canadians have eight games remaining in regular-season play, including two more at the Richmond Olympic Oval in February. Before that, they have a matchup with the Vancouver North West Hawks on Saturday, Jan. 31. The game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Canlan Ice Sports North Shore.
